My rental property was managed by this company. Carl Benson, the owner, claimed that he bought me a fridge of exactly $1200.00 in November 2021 and put into my rental property. However, he got my money but could not provide me the original receipt. I asked for it again and again because I needed it for manufacture warranty. Eventually he provided me a fake receipt of exactly $1200 (original price plus tax).
Finally he claimed he lost the original receipt. How can you trust a company bought a big item and did not provide you a receipt? When a repair or maintenance is higher than $200, the management company needs owner's approval. This company also charged my for repairs and maintenance of $400 in October 2021 without my approval. I had no idea what they actually did except for cutting down a palm tree.

For the last month and a half, the air conditioning unit for the 2nd floor was broken (we changed filters monthly), and reached out several (4 to be exact) times to get them to fix it, which they never did. I'm guessing they were able to get away with this because our unit for the first floor was still working, however all of our bedrooms were upstairs and we couldn't all fit downstairs to sleep at night. After all this, they had the audacity to keep 83% of our security deposit, they docked us for things we requested be fixed ON MOVE-IN that were never fixed. Immoral.

I have been using Desert Wind as Property Manager for my rentals for 4 years now. I am continually grateful for their reasonably priced and professional services. When there's a maintenance issue, they consult with me and keep costs under control. I note that the negative reviews are from tenants. While I'm glad I have tenants, one of them vacated, leaving over $2000 worth of damage OVER AND ABOVE THE SECURITY DEPOSIT, thereby failing to honor his contractual and moral obligations. Let's just leave it at that. Draw your own conclusions.

Carl not only made sure our maintenance requests were handled in a timely fashion but after I moved out, apparently a bag of my military metals and some old coins my grandma left me when she passed away fell out of one of my boxes when I moved. Rather than take them from me to sell for scrap and I never would have been the wiser, Carl text me immediately! You can't beat that kind of integrity! If the owner wasn't selling the house we were renting, I'd still be living there knowing Desert Wind has me covered! Thanks Carl!

Lazy agent! We were scheduled to visit a house for rent on Villas Lane in Chandler. Agent did not even bother to show up! He instead gave us the entry code over the phone and so we were on our own the all time. Is this how real estate agents make their commissions? Very unprofessional. Anyway we liked the house and we applied for it. We were approved but after we saw the lease agreement wanted to make changes to it.
Some of the terms were simply unacceptable (e.g. you have to pay $50 for every maintenance servicing, you have to arrange for professional carpet cleaning upon move out, we could not get a second garage key opener.). Those were minor changes to the lease agreement but agent refused to make these changes. And by the way, we already had paid $100 for credit check, $150 "admin fee" and security deposit.
All this could have been avoided if we had seen the lease upfront. Anyway, the deal did not materialize. The landlord probably lost at least a month of rent by hiring this sleazy agent. And by the way, we have stellar credit ratings, and rental history. Just a waste of time.

All about collecting rents and very poor service. This is my second time with them. Should have learned. They hire low budget incompetent service people. Left my family in a 90 degree House (July) for 6 days. My wife is bedridden with two small children trying to servive while we wait for service. Hicken Air is totally incompetent and manager refused to call a competent substitute. Contracts are nit picky but the House condition was no where near that level of condition and expectation. STAY AWAY!
After I post my review they post a lame excuse. As though "sorry" removes all the pain and distress. My wife is bedridden and you send your incompetent vendor, not once, but twice. We wait for a total of 5 days for you to correct. How about you put your money where your mouth is and drop the rents by 6 days? All show and little substance

If I could give them no star I would! They are unprofessional and care about nothing but the money. They will leave a family with a baby with out an air Conditioner for over 3 days now and they could care less! If you want a renral company that will really help you out you should run far far away from them!

*update* owner has now moved into petty threats over Facebook. I seriously caution anyone from associating with this company. The least professional, most haphazard real estate company I have ever had the displeasure of associating with. I sent a slew of emails to this company after finding out they wanted to show the house I'm renting. I wanted to coordinate with the representative to make sure I made myself scarce and out of the way of the showings, and anything else they needed from me.
These emails went unanswered, until the day the showings were supposed to happen, where we finally reached the rep by phone and her excuse for not getting back was basically that she "didn't have time, " was "confused, " and other assorted ways to lay the blame at other's feet. This was insanely frustrating, consumed my entire weekend, but I was willing to take a step back and let bygones be bygones.
That is, until a realtor showed up to my door this morning with 4 scheduled showings, though we had agreed with Desert Wind that the showings were to happen during the week while we were at work. Dealing with this company has been miserable, frustrating, and infuriating. I have done everything I could to be accommodating to the rep from the company, and she has done everything possible to be non-responsive and frustrate the situation. I don't understand why this rep is going out of their way to be difficult, but it doesn't reflect well on this company.

It's rare that I will take time out of my busy schedule to write a review but this review is worth every second I can spare. I want to give my thanks and total appreciation to Sally! I have been struggling to find a place to live for a month now finally I found Sally who came to my rescue! From day one she has shown me nothing but pure compassion and a great sense of positivity in getting a place to live.
She has worked around the clock even on her days off making sure I have viewed online any prospects she had sent me. I still don't have a place yet but I know because of who she is I will soon have my home sweet home! Thank you Sally from the bottom of my heart!

I rented a home from Desert Wind for 5 years and my experience was far from great until I started dealing with Davee Raganit. The 5 stars are 100% for her. She went out of her way to make sure vacating the property was a pleasant experience and fair to me as well as the owner/property management team. Make sure you ask for her in dealing with this company! Had she been there from the beginning I have a feeling my move in process and issues along the way would have been handled much better than they were. Thanks again Davee!

Worst company ever. Make this short and sweet I could probably write a novel about all of the shady and unprofessional things this company pulled on me. In the end tried to charge me $600 for cleaning a house I left clean. Made multiple attempts to get a copy of the inspection to see what justified such steep charges and after a huge run around and them continuing to argue with me via email and deny my request I finally got a simple inspection form back.
Yet they refused to send me an itemized list of the charges. Long story short I hired a lawyer and called them on their bull shit and illegal tactics and they sent a letter back trying to scare once again, held my ground and got my entire deposit back a few days later when they realized I wasn't going to roll over to their empty threats and be scammed out of my money by them.
Not to mention the ridiculous customer service I received the entire time I lived there, maintenance was never done in a reasonable time period in fact some was never done at all. Worst company ever if I could give a negative star rating I would and seeing the other reviews here tells me it wasn't just me seems this company is horrible across the board. If I could get these scamming shady assholes to be put out of business I would.

This property management should be shut down! We spent over $140 for a professional carpet cleaning a WEEK before we turned in keys. They chose to charge us an insanely exuberant amount of $440 for their version of carpet cleaning claiming that there was pet odor. Well, considering our dog hadn't been IN THE UNIT for 2 weeks BEFORE the carpet cleaning, and stayed out since that time, I'm not sure wht they would make up such a lie and then charge us so much.
No REASONABLE carpet cleaning business would charge $440! On top of that, this newer person who we had to deal with named, "Davie" told my husband and I both in an email that as soon as we had turned in keys, we would get a call from her regarding a walk through. Never received a phone call, and lo and behold they are claiming dog smell.they are money hungry cheapos who never want to actually DO anything!
On that note, we had a work order the first minth we arrived stating that NONE of the 2 bedroom windows would open. They're lame excuse of a maintenance guy says "oh, yah, just shimmy it open! No big deal!" REALLY!? NO BIG DEAL!? How about it being a big deal if we had a break in bc our master bedroom window is located ON THE PORCH! He was CRAZY if he thought we were going to just "shimmy it open".it was a heavy window and I couldn't do that by myself.
But did they ever truly FIX it? Nope. The deal breaker for us to move was this: the condo complex we lived in had a crazy lady running the HOA and thought it would be BRILLIANT to make everyone pay for their own water inst a ad of the HOA. Fine, but in our lease, water was paid for. When it came time to lease renewal, they said that NOT ONLY would there be a rent hike, but ALSO the water.
Money hungry idiots! They were already going to get more just out of rhe rent because they weren't having to pay for the water, but they had to do a stupid rent hike too? Nope, no way. Deal breaker. If I could gove them less of a rating, I most definitely would. I'm just SO glad we have left that crap hole property management company! I pity those who still have to deal with them.

I rented a home from desert winds property management in arizona and was not impressed with the man that helped me in the beginning (james). He was very unprofessional and not very helpful. At the end of our contract we dealt Davee Raganit which was a much better experience. She was so helpful and nice she was always on time and always followed up with me in a timely manner. If it wasn't for Davee I would have nothing good to say about desert winds property management. Thank you Davee. P.S. the five stars are for Davee.

I would never do business with this company again they suck you in like everything is ok and accept your deposit willingly then when you go to move out they do everything in their power not to give your deposit back. I had my house professionally cleaned, carpets professionally cleaned, lawn maintenance done monthly which was all at no expense to them.
I have contacted them several times and they find every reason in the world not to give me my money back. They will say that the check is in the mail and then when I call to inquire they have some kind of excuse and also they have never wanted me to be present at the final inspection day. Desertwind never listen to me after I moved out. They have denied me my money and my advice to you when moving is to not rent from this company. Please, when you go to move out do not do business with this company. They're scrupulous and are completely worthy of taking your money.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! This company will do anything and everything to keep your security deposit. My wife and I cleaned that house very well and left it better than it was when we arrived. We spent $150.00 on a landscaper, $100.00 on a carpet cleaner and did everything to make sure the place was immaculate. On the day of the final walkthrough (also the same day as the carpets cleaned) James comes to do the walkthrough.
When he arrives he walks right in and throughout the house with his dirty shoes from outside where it was raining, tracking dirt all over the just cleaned carpets. Right then and there I knew that he didn't really care about if the place was clean or not, cuz they were gonna keep the money anyway. He went on to tell me that I needed to move the appliances and clean around and behind them.
I told him I wasn't going to move appliances. I wasn't shown behind them when we moved in to see if they were clean, plus if me or my wife got hurt while moving these heavy appliances then what? He was very arrogant and unprofessional so I just gave him the keys and left. I rented a house in Chandler from this company and wasn't left with anything positive to say about them.
Throughout the year that we lived there, we had a few things that needed to be fixed and/or replaced. When these things such as a dishwasher, ceiling fan etc. were brought to the Owner Carl Benson's attention it took him forever to act on it. The man is lazy and incompetent. Four months after putting in a request for a screen door on the patio, he finally shows up and puts it on wrong.
When it ends up falling off the track and on to my 3yr old child I call him up furious and all he does is laugh. Carl is extremely unprofessional and incompetent. James, the property manager is just the same, they shouldn't be allowed to manage anything. If you value your money and your place to live DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!

I used to have properties managed by Desert Wind and all of these 1 star reviews could not be more accurate. Thankfully, I pulled my properties in 2014 when I found out personnel changes were made, and have found a new management company who is ethical and honest always, but I just found out through research that Desert Wind and Carl Benson was audited and the Arizona Dept. of Real Estate found that his Trust Account was deficient by $33,854.92. THIS IS OWNER'S MONEY!
The 9 page report (easily accessible on the Arizona Department of Real Estate's website - Search Licensee - Carl Benson) states that he was using owner's trust funds to operate his business, as well as countless other violations of the state law! I have sent a very concerned and upset letter to the Department in regards to how this man is still in business, ripping off his current clients, and from the reviews on here, his tenants as well.
The only reason I even looked in to the company's standing, is because I have YET to receive my 2014 year-end statement and 1099, that is legally due to be mailed out by January 31st. When I called the office to inquire on this, the person who answered the phone told me it would be mailed out sometime NEXT WEEK. Even after being in detrimental trouble with the state, they still are not following the law!
This company needs to be shut down, and any owners who have their investments under management need to change companies immediately. Proceed doing business with these crooks at your own risk!

DO NOT RENT FROM DESERT WIND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT! After renting a townhouse from this company in Mesa, AZ for a year and half, with perfect payment history, it was finally time for my lease to end and I decided to move to another state. Myself along with family and friends spent 3 days cleaning the unit, to where it was in better condition and much cleaner than when I moved in.
After cleaning I had taken several photos and did a complete walk through with James Wilson, who pointed out that I should clean behind the appliances as well as a few other minor things (Window seal above door, medicine cabinet, little things that were just overlooked), or else I would be charged for them to have a cleaning crew come and do it. So Mr. Wilson let me keep the keys so I could finish those issues and simply drop the keys off in their Dropbox before midnight.
This was completed as he requested. Now, take in mind he claimed everything else was perfect and the unit looked great. Carpets had been professionally shampooed, title and grout was professionally done, walls were scrubbed down, all the typical cleaning to ensure we received the deposit back. Well the next day I had sent the rest of the photos showing I went back and completed the ONLY issues Mr. Wilson had mentioned.
A few hours later Carl Benson, the owner, replies to the email with an attitude asking how I got back in without the keys. I explained to him that Mr. Wilson had let me keep them and simply drop them off in the Dropbox. Well from that moment I could tell Mr. Benson was not happy that Mr. Wilson had informed me about cleaning behind the appliances, because he wanted to keep some of the deposit. Surprisingly, a few days later I receive a brief and short email claiming that the unit had a strong oder of smoke, and the carpets would need to be replaced along with the walls repainted. Now, take into account, Mr. Wilson never mentioned anything about there being a smell during the walk through. Plus, no one that lived there even smokes!
We are very healthy and workout regularly. Today I received the disposition from them and they charged $800 to replace the carpet and $900 to paint the walls; which any landlord will tell you, the walls are always repainted anyways. So they kept the $775 deposit and now want an additional $932 within a month or it goes to collections. In my opinion, I believe Mr. Benson was upset that I was informed about the additional cleaning, so he came up with something else to try and screw me. DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE US ING THIS COMPANY. SAME THING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU! PLUS, MR. BENSON IS EXTREMELY LAZY AND WILL NOT GO OUT OF HIS WAY FOR YOU AT ALL!

I have rented from this management agency for almost 2 years and never had a problem until I was away at my grandfather's funeral and found out my rent check did not go through. The moment I found is out, I emailed them letting them know I would be in immediately upon return to the state to pay my rent. The day we told them we were returning the owner Carl Benson went to my home and called animal control having my pets removed from my home because he stated the home was abandoned ( never mind the fact all of my possessions were in the home).
When we returned home no notice was left. They also gave no notice they would be entering the property, as required by AZ landlord/tenant law. Because we had a caretaker for the animals, our bedroom door was locked, they removed the door handle and enter our room. We decided we no longer wished to remain in the house because we did not feel secure.
We went to court for an eviction and were given into the 12th of the month to vacate. While we were taking some things to storage Carl, again, unlawfully entered the home. When I called him to ask what the problem was he begin cursing at me and threatening that if we did not hurry and leave he would call CPS and have my children taken from me. My children are not even present in the home, they are out of state with my family while we move.
I emailed Carl letting him know his behavior was harassment. He emailed me back calling me a pathological liar and acting highly unprofessional and hostile. I do not suggest dealing with this business. They believe they are above the law. I am on my way to court now to get an order of protection.
