I've worked at Century 21 Award in Mission Valley for 4.5 years. One of the main reasons I stay is the support I receive. I recently went thru the most difficult and emotional escrow of my career and was ready to have a minor breakdown. I'd wake up at night with anxiety attacks as was overwhelmed with how to reign in this out of control transaction.
I confided in my manager Dushaun Fairley my struggles and as soon as he saw what I was dealing with, he stepped in and helped me every step of the way until the escrow closed a week later. Every time I heard from the other agent in the party, I asked him how I should respond and he guided me. He attended the final walk thru with me as I agreed to meet the buyers agent and her clients at my listing and he was there to make sure nothing got elevated.
Of course with his presence there, it all went smooth and no one got nasty. He told me he would take the unpleasant calls from the buyers agent at any time, relieving me of the stress of knowing I had to take yet another beating from this agent. Of course she never called him and she stopped calling me 5 times a day, but instead reverted back to emails and toned down her nasty attitude all because of her one phone with Dushaun - she saw she couldn't get away with it anymore. Dushaun has my back, and always will and that makes me feel so much relief that if I ever have a situation that is above what I can handle, he is there to help and take away that stress of not knowing what to do.
The 2nd reason I love and stay at this office is the fun, diverse group of agents we have and I always enjoy talking to them when in the office. We bounce ideas off each other, and help each other with advice on our escrows. Our office is always there to help another agent - we share and never worry that someone is going to steal our business. I love the sharing nature of our office and it's really helpful to the newer agents as I remember I needed a lot of guidance, tips and ideas for things that worked to find business.

We were referred by a brother of an agent here. (Mind you he mentions if you have any issues with her let me know) well within the first week we wondered where she was, what she was doing with her time and why are we not hearing from her or getting some options? I had to put a call in-we started over with her. The whole time we kept hearing "I'm going to go to bat for you and get you the best deal".
The agent knew we had to be out of our property in minimal time so here's the story. We started I think back in April-Laid it on the table, excellent credit-excellent income, had our own money with possibly some help from parents if they thought it was a good investment. Yes the first two weeks were difficult while we analyzed how much we had of our own without help and some communication (you know simple wants vs needs)We spent countless hours searching as the agent sent us the MLS with our picks, thumbs up and thumbs down.
We get 450k is a little limited but we didn't want to buy something ridiculous and have no life as our first home/investment. The agent never mentioned the agent picks nor did she set up appointments for us to look at properties. We always set it up to go see houses. My fiance had a bad feeling the whole time but I kept a bandaid on her to keep stress down.
On May 5th we found a home SHE suggested we don't offer too low or the seller would shy away our offer. So we offer 2k off full price (pretty reasonable huh?) we had the inspection done that Thursday am at 10:30.the inspector said we would have it that night or first thing in the am. We get a text that Friday from her asking if we got the report we said yes.
Apparently she didn't have it because my fiance had to send it to her. That evening she text "who's available to chat?" I replied I am-I waited for 30 minutes no call then I finally get a ring my phone was in my pocket. I call back she mentions she's at an expo?!?!? She says we shouldn't ask for anything on the house to be fixed.the ac, the rotted garage door, the safety electrical outlets, the dryer duct, the privacy wall, the fireplace. NOTHING!
She mentioned at the house AGAIN "I'm going to go to bat for you I'm gonna type a request for repairs" etc!never got that request! Nothing, I sent an email with concern about the deal, how we offer full price and she doesn't even mention things to get fixed OH and the original AC unit which we would've been ok with.just maybe like 3-5k in credits and we probably would've signed up.maybe even less toward closing we had money burning a hole in our pocket.
She calls me back "you and your girlfriend (HAHA)-me laughing have dissected this whole process, I've talked to my colleagues about you all and you know if you want to take the offer off the table that's fine this is ridiculous the questions you guys ask and wouldn't let me represent you and do my job" IS THIS A JOKE!?!? What job? We found the house, you didn't offer a counter, we offered full price and you call me telling us we shouldn't ask for anything?
What part of first time homebuyer don't you understand? Well we know why you only helped like NO ONE find a house only helping people sell houses! 10-20 minutes of your time and effort in customer service and you would've had an easy commission but you cost us time, money, anxiety, and stress. I can't believe that miss Lorraine Tapia represents this company!
This is the last time we will use century 21 and be mindful that she is costing you guys business! There is so so much more but man this is all I have time to write. Such a horrible experience with a realtor.

My name is Jason Bell, and I'm a new Realtor with Century 21 Award San Diego, working out of our Mission Valley office. I've been in Real Estate for 2 months, and I already have a listing, and am working with multiple buyers! When I was interviewing to find the brokerage where I'd hang my license, the most important quality in a brokerage was training and support.
I needed to feel like my brokerage would not only set me up for success, but do a little hand holding in the beginning. Century 21 Award has done both. The training they offer is second to none. They paint a very realistic picture of the hard work it takes to become a successful agent, then give you all of the tools necessary to implement their training.
From the branch manager, to the mentors, to the countless agents in the office always ready to answer a question or offer up help, I feel like I can't lose. We have the option to work from home, but I love working out of the office. I'm always learning something new just keeping my ears open. These tidbits from other successful agents, as well as the support from management, are what have me in a position to close my first two escrows in my first three months as a Realtor. Everyday I'm reminded that I made the best decision possible in coming to Century 21 Award!

This review is regarding the fact that this Century 21 office uses Award Escrow for their escrow company. Award Escrow in our experience is guilty of too many incompetent and lazy errors to count; in our opinion, it is a terrible escrow company to deal with. If one chooses an agent from Century 21 Award, I would highly suggest one request a different escrow company to do business with, or search out a different real estate agent.

I hope I am leaving this review in the right place, as most reviews here seem to be about rental properties or property managers. We worked with an agent from this company to purchase a home and it was unfortunately a very unprofessional experience. Our agent was unresponsive, unknowledgeable, and seemingly unable to walk us through the steps in the home buying process.
I had to research each step online myself so I could make informed decisions throughout the process. It's very disconcerting, and frankly bizarre, to work with an agent who behaves as if they are buying a home for you with their own money, and thus you do not need to know what's going on. Every step of the way was a battle for information.
From answering simple questions, to following through on plans, our agent failed every time, even after multiple requests via various methods of communication. Do your research and find a company with reputable agents who are professional, knowledgeable, responsive, and willing and able to walk you through what can be a very long and daunting process. Such a disappointing experience.

Melissa and her team were nothing but nice to our family when we rented from them for a year. The properties ac unit malfunctioned during move in, in the middle of the summer and she brought us fans to use until it was fixed. Every time we submitted a request or complaint it was handled in a timely manner. We had a great experience with this company. We just moved into a bigger home and wish we stayed with them.

Never ever rent from them! They are the worst management company I have ever seen. I also must say Melissa is a very unprofessional realitor, she simply doesn't care about how a property is shown, turned over to a new tenant, or any repairs you need while renting from her. I rented a house for $2,900 a month for a year a half, and from the first day I moved in I complained about the dirty walls and how bad the place needed a paint job, and also how dirty the place was.
I even took pics and sent them to her, along with pee stains in the carpet from previous tenants dogs, and all I got was a offer for maid service two weeks after i moved in, of course I had already done all the cleaning so we could move in and live there. I never got a offer for paint or better carpet cleaning. I also signed a one year lease and paid it in full with gardener service every week, however that stopped 4 months after move in down to once every 2 or three weeks and the yards started looking very bad.to the point I was getting complaints from HOA in the mail, she did nothing about this.
I also had serious repair issues with two toilets that ran constantly witch in return raised my water bill to the highest in the neighborhood, I went 8 months with broken toilets, they didn't fix them till a week before I moved out, so new tenants had working ones.that was so nice of them to do. Oh don't let me forget to tell you, when I signed the second year lease in November I told Melissa I can not live with the nasty paint job anymore, and her reply was I agree the place has had two previous tenants and never been painted so I will talk to the owner and let you know.
I never heard about the paint job again. I gave them a 30 day notice in March because I wasn't living with walls that I was truly embarrassed by any more, and broken toilets that I paid double water bills for and paid $2,900 in rent. I was extremely harassed to show the place to get it re rented and on top of that she wanted me there for estimates on painters!
Yeah that's right now they will paint for the new renters, I couldn't believe it! I also had to be there three different times for plumbers to finally fix toilets. When I did move out they had a deposit of $2,900 well guess what? I was charged $500 towards there new paint job yeah what I wanted the whole time I was there, and I got to pay for deep carpet cleaning, and other cleaning, and remember I said the place was dirty with bad carpet stains when I moved in.
The end result I only got back $475.00 of my deposit, and got to pay for things I wanted and never got while there, for new renters. This company is a rip-off! Stay away at all cost or it will cost you!

I rent a condo from this company and they are honestly the worst property management company I have ever come across. Anytime that something is wrong with the unit they require us as tenants to be there for the people to come in and fix things. This is fine if it happens on occasion, but when the vendors they are working with are incompetent and do not show up to appointments and do not call to cancel and then have to reschedule this becomes a big issue for me because I cannot just miss work to be available during the day for these people.
This has happened SEVERAL times. Not to mention that the people they work with require us bugging them to finish their job. It took 3 weeks for them to fix a leakage issue in the kitchen sink, 2 months to resolve toilet issues and we are still waiting for 3 months and counting to have them replace the dishwasher. Very unprofessional from my standpoint.
I would go at great lengths to avoid having this company manage your property. The only thing that keeps us there is that the unit is a great price, great location and nice condo. I have to call the company several times to get someone to respond to my requests and there is no follow-up. I just cannot believe that an agency like this is still in business.

I've worked with Christian twice now. Both transactions were total disasters. When I sold with him it was a house that I had been renting out for a long time and it had termite issues, title issues, foundation issues, and when we finally found a buyer, the buyer actually almost dropped out after our final round of negotiations. Throughout the entire process Christian and Ivana were both willing to go above and beyond what I expected from a real estate agent, and they were both able to fix a deal that was falling apart at every turn.
Because of my experience with Christian and Ivana I had them help me find a new house for a primary residence. After showing me 60 houses we got an offer accepted and negotiated successfully. This deal almost went smoothly until we were about to close. The seller's agent failed to make some things clear, and the transition was very rocky. Christian worked with the loan officer and the seller to fix the problem creatively. Seeing the seller's agent's defensive retreat from the situation made me realize that Christian was the one fixing the deal.
Since the transition was very rocky for us and the seller, Christian insisted on making things right and incurred some costs out of his own pocket (I suspect). Christian and Ivana are great agents who really show their tenacity when faced with difficult problems. They are upfront and honest when bad things happen, they don't complain, and they always offer solutions. They have a beautiful family and they definitely deserve your business.

I moved into a condo that they managed in November of 2009. It was a decent place and everyone was nice during the courting stage. Prior renters lost the mail key (I had to buy new lock and key) I never was reimbursed for, made me take time out of my day and gas to drive from Oceanside to their office to sign the rental papers, and was duped with a pool key situation (that was used as a selling point).
The place had trash in it and was pretty dirty when I moved in. I questioned if it was going to be cleaned. Melissa told me it had already been cleaned. At times getting things fixed took some more time that it should have, like the heater during the winter. I repaired things myself if I could to not have to deal with slow maintenance. Upon moving out I had the condo I had it professionally cleaned to ensure my deposit would be returned promptly.
I was charged for repair ( of the "new clothes washer" that had rust on it) that I never used once. I used my front loader washer and dryer during the two years I lived there. I made sure to get authorization prior to moving the owners fridge, washer, and drier to the garage. When I tried to get my deposit back, I was given the run around. It took over two months.
I know I provided a good address but they said I didn't so they mailed it to the condo I rented. Luckily I had all my mail forwarded. I received all my mail except the magical deposit refund check. I question if it was ever even mailed to begin with. In closing beware. You won't be reimbursed for things, they will back out on their word, won't get things repaired timely, and will jerk you around. As a renter I was always on time with rent, took care of the place as if it was my own, just to be taken advantage of.

I think the Mari W. review is a flat out lie, meant to bolster Melissa's ratings. Sadly, once you rent the property, Melissa is out of the picture (does not return calls, etc.) which is to say the same for the whole office. But when they want you to call them (ie. You finally stop paying rent timely), they finally decide your important enough to contact. I've never heard nor seen anyone named Scott, which makes me think more about the planted post from Maria W.
Majority of people reference Melissa and Stacey in their comments, and Stacey appears to answer the after hours number as well. I assume they are over worked, or really just don't care so long as they have your money. After being a very reasonable tenant, we have horrible issues with Rats that were never dealt with properly before we moved in, immediately after we moved in and it took over a year and a half to finally get them to act upon it again. Melissa is very polite and responsive in the beginning, but again that fades until lease renewal, then she pops up again.
I figured renting from a property management company like Century 21 would be a good idea and if there was an issue we'd get a quick response. It took three months, three letters and paying rent extremely late for them to even bother to address or notice us, and all they wanted to initially discuss was the rent. Promises of follow-ups go unfulfilled, or you have to stay on top of them so much it becomes almost a full time job.
It took over a year to get our Master Bathroom fixed and our family bathroom had an issue since the day we moved in. Everything to be repaired has to go through the owner of the property. I did not sign an agreement with the owner, I signed it with Century 21, and they are the ones that need to ensure my house is habitable (it's barely meeting that standard currently). Sadly, I am under lease for another 6 months, and I'm sure if I moved, they would sue the heck out of me, even though I'm within my rights, I really can't afford the headaches.
Since were buying in a year, I don't know if we really want to move and may be forced to deal with moving twice. Over all, the company needs to consider their tenants customers and provide the same "level" of service to them, instead of ignoring them until the tenant is forced to create a bad situation.

We rented a condo for 3 years in wind a d sea from century 21 Awards' Melissa Pyres. She was great. We loved the place. If we needed anything - which was plumbing stuff twice - they were great on scheduling and their repair guy Scott was a super nice young man. Plus, we were a great fit for the bldg which makes me think Melissa knows how to rent the right place to the right people.

Sad to say, but the reviews are justified. Be prepared to be jerked around. If anything needs maintenance, you will wait and wait and wait. Very inflexible with their times, you will have to work around their schedules if you need a maintenance crew to fix anything. Then you will deal with the incompetent companies they outsource through. They will be late, they won't have proper parts, etc. If you can avoid renting through this company, I highly suggest you do.

The staff at Century 21 Award Property Management are exemplary. Completely professional, easy to work with, responsive. Everything you want from your property managers. I have already referred several folks to them and will continue to work with them for all my properties. They make owning rental property seamless and transparent. Fabulous! Thank you to Century 21 APM for being so great at what you do. Its refreshing.

Terrible! Melissa Piers is awful!. She flat out lied to us twice. She is very rude and disrespectful. We would never deal with these people again! Thank Goodness we are out of this place next month. Nothing gets fixed.we went with out heat in Alpine for an entire winter. I am pretty sure that is not even legal. If you are considering working with them save your self the hassle and don't. I wish I could give 0 stars.

HORRIBLE expereince with this office. They didn't have the keys for me on moving day so they told me they'd have a lock smith ready so we didn't have to hold up the moving company and facilities manager at my new place. They didn't. Then they claimed that they never said that to me or to the facilities manager. I guess we BOTH must have misunderstood.
When calling to ask where the lock smith (or any one from their office) was, I was told they were busy with other clients, 'becuase I'm not thier only client, you know'. I would NEVER work with these people again.

I just started renting from this company, these other reviews are scaring me! The person I've been working with, Melissa, has been responsive and polite, the only bone I have to pick is with thier lack of convenience and flexibility. You have to sign the lease in person (since when does a 6 month lease need a wet signature? can't we do this over fax, email or even mail like every other company?) and their office hours are 9-4, right smack dab in the middle of the work day.
They won't even let me see the lease before hand to review, so now I have to sit in their office forever reading it with a fine tooth comb- that's not a quick appointment. I'm hoping this is just an outdated policy that will be fixed in time!
